The District of Lake Country is engaging with the community over the next few weeks to better understand community mobility needs and travel patterns as well as to get feedback on conceptual strategies for future transit improvements. Residents are invited to provide input through the online survey on travel needs and potential transportation solutions.

Participants can share information about their current travel patterns and transportation needs. You can also provide feedback on draft preliminary service strategies developed by the project team.

Input collected through engagement will be used to refine options and finalize project recommendations that will be presented to Council.

Project Overview:

The District of Lake Country is exploring methods to improve transit and mobility options in Lake Country to improve connectivity within the community and increase transit ridership.

There is an existing public transportation system in Lake Country, however, this project aims to provide reliable and frequent access to poorly connected areas and improve mobility options for people who may have a greater reliance on public transportation, such as student commuters, tourists, and community members with disabilities.

Supported by transportation specialists, WATT Consulting Group, this project involves outreach to residents, youth, seniors, businesses, and interested and affected parties to determine how transit services could be best delivered in the future to serve local needs in a cost-effective and reliable way.

More About the Project: Objectives and Timeline

The overall objectives of this project are to:

  • Understand the transportation needs and opportunities for residents, employers and interested and affected parties of the District.
  • Determine how connections to key local destinations and high-density areas can be delivered, coordinated, and optimized as effectively as possible, including potential partnerships with existing and new transportation providers.
  • In line with the District’s Mobility Master Plan (2021), increase transit ridership by at least 10% while ensuring that transit is operating in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Integrate new transit options with the existing transportation network, maintaining regional connections and key routes such as those to UBCO, Kelowna International Airport, and Vernon.
