The 2020 Budget was approved by Council March 3rd, 2020. Information regarding the 2021 budget will be available November, 2020.
Council endorsed on March 3rd the 2020-2024 Financial Plan. In 2020 a 5.88% property tax increase and $25.00 increase to each parcel tax will be reflected in 2020 Property Assessments.
In 2020 the average home in Lake Country is valued at $711,000, resulting in the average home incurring an increase of $123.00 per year plus the parcel tax increase which will increase the flat rate that was implemented in 2016, from $125.00 to $150.00 per parcel. Funds from the parcel tax go towards the Transportation for Tomorrow plan.
The original 6.03% tax increase that was proposed at the first bylaw reading on December 10th, has been reduced from 6.03% to 5.88% due to additional anticipated growth in taxes within the community.
Council and staff consulted with the community throughout January and February on the 2020 budget. This was accomplished by hosting ten face to face community engagements, publishing nine articles, placing newspaper ads, postings on lakecountry.bc.ca articles and blogs as well as engaging on District of Lake Country social media channels.
The 2020 budget will support existing services, an increase to RCMP staffing, increases for the Parks and Recreation Master Plan, Art Gallery, Lake Country Heritage Society, Lake Country Health Planning Society in addition to enhancing equipment, maintenance and operations at Creekside theater. Taxes generated from growth will be used to support additional RCMP officers, increase of staffing and services required to support growth.
